Prof. Cheng Qiangong’s team participated in the National Engineering Geology Annual Conference 2018

From October 12 to 16, 2018, The National Engineering Geology Annual Conference of 2018, hosted by the Chinese Geological Society and organized by the Engineering Geology Committee of the Chinese Geological Society and Chang’an University, was held in Xi’an, Shanxi province.

Nearly 1,500 representatives from more than 200 universities, research institutes and enterprises across the country gathered in Xi'an to discuss the engineering geological theory and practice of new era under the background of “One Belt, One Road” and ecological civilization construction.

The theme and content of the conference highly summarized the development in the field of engineering geology during the past 60 years of engineering geology in China, especially for the latest 40 years. It is also a presentation of new theories, new technologies and new methods in the field of engineering geology. The conference topics includes the engineering geological theory of new era, engineering geological and geological disasters of the Belt and Road, the engineering geology and ecological environment of the Loess Plateau, the transportation construction and engineering geology, the development and utilization of urban geology and underground space, and the new technologies and methods of engineering geology. For this conference, there are 283 reports were given. All of the participants conducted an extensive and in-depth discussions through the presentation of these reports, which is useful for the implementation of China’s “One Belt, One Road” national strategy, national major project construction and prevention. Disaster prevention and reduction.

Pref. Cheng Qiangong and his team attended the academic event. In the parallel session of engineering geological theory of new era, Dr. Wang Yufeng, young teacher, gave an academic report on the topic of “Study on the volume effect of rock avalanche”. The report won the enthusiastic discussion among the participants. The relevant research results were recommended as one of the most prominent advances in engineering geology in China in the past decade by Prof. Wu Faquan, Secretary of the Engineering Geology Committee, in the closing ceremony of the conference. In the youth engineering geology forum, Ph.D. student Li Yan conducted an academic report entitled “Method for determining soil dynamics parameters in centrifuge shaking table tests”.

At the afternoon of October 12th, Prof. Cheng Qiangong attended the joint meeting of the Engineering Geology Professional Committee and the IAEG members. In the morning of October 14, he was invited to serve as the chairman of the conference on the new method of engineering geology and new technology.
