On September 16, experts and leaders from China Railway First Survey and Design Institute visited the Faculty of Geosciences and Environmental Engineering, Southwest Jiaotong University. A symposium was held, with attendees as Gong Jiangfeng, President of Institute of Mapping and Geographic Information Engineering Technology, Wu Ruihong, Vice President and Chief Engineer, Tian Shequan, Vice President , Liu Yalin, Director of Institute of Aerial Remote Sensing, and Zhu Guoqin, Director-General of Engineering Mapping Institute of China Railway First Survey and Design Institute, Honorary President Li Zhilin, Party Secretary Guan Qinchuan, Executive President Liu Guoxiang, Prof. Liu Chenglong, Prof. Qi Hua, Prof. Xu Zhu, Prof. Yuan Linguo, Cao Yungang, Head of Department of Surveying, Mapping and Remote Sensing Information, You Wei, Deputy Head of Department of Surveying, Mapping and Remote Sensing Information, and Teacher Yang Xuefeng from Faculty of Geosciences and Environmental Engineering. The symposium was moderated by Liu Chenglong.

Liu Chenglong introduced all the attending leaders and experts, and Gong Jiangfeng, on behalf of China Railway First Survey and Design Institute, expressed his pleasure to be invited and wishes to deepen mutual ties in the future.

Liu Guoxiang made a brief introduction to the Faculty of Geosciences and Environmental Engineering in terms of development opportunities, guiding ideology and goals, main initiatives and processes, and expected landmark achievements for the visiting group. Aiming to build a world-class university and first-class disciplines by following the path of building a internationalization model faculty, the Faculty of Geosciences and Environmental Engineering rises to the challenges in real development and strives to overcome the institutional mechanism obstacles to be more motivated in school running and enhance the development ability, thereby making the faculty more internationally-oriented and forming a development landscape of "big team, big platform, big project, big achievement", making positive contribution to support the "Double First-Class" initiative.

Li Zhilin said that a win-win university-enterprise cooperation can be established, the faculty may send teachers to the enterprises for cooperation and exchange as scheduled and to provide technical and data support on the high-speed rail construction experiments. Wu Ruihong expressed his favor to the idea.

The two sides further discussed their future cooperation and exchanges. Taking geological remote sensing as an example, President Gong Jiangfeng said that hopefully the faculty could send experts to give guidance on the interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary problems rising during the production process. Liu Guoxiang proposed to seek commonalities between enterprises and schools, and that between production and research on top of basic research. Professor Xu Zhu also showed that, enterprises may put forward new challenges in the future cooperation. 

The teachers shared their ideas and reached a host of consensus. In the concluding speech, Guan Qinchuan, on behalf of the Faulty, extended his gratitude to the leaders of China Railway First Survey and Design Institute for their arrival, saying that the mutual cooperation is built on the profound relationship established by the previous generations and the two sides will step up the exchange and cooperation on this basis by learning from the past experience in talent training and taking an international vision.

The symposium came to a successful end.
