The "Introduction to Geological Resources and Geological Engineering" course group in Department of Geological Engineering and Faculty of Student Affairs held the activities of visiting the University History Hall and Geological Exhibition Room for the freshmen on September 22, 2020, in order to deepen the understanding on the university history and majors and promote the love and honor of the university. Vice dean Xiaoyan Zhao and teachers such as Qiangong Cheng, Zhiming Zhao, and Zhihou Zhang et al guided this activity.

The lecturer of the University History Hall introduced the relevant situation of our university in detail from the three parts, including the university history evolution, achievements and outstanding alumni in the past 124 years. The lecturers explained the important development process and history of this university, from the beginning of Yuguan, the restoration of Tangshan, outstanding achievements, fire transmitting, greeting the dawn, forge ahead, entrepreneurship Emei, Chengdu New Chapter. The students feel the thick historical accumulation of this university and were proud of SJTU's achievements and its new development for more than 30 "World Firsts" and "China Firsts" created by SJTU alumni. The responsibility and mission of the students were further encouraged by the spirit of “cultivate talents to rejuvenate the Chinese nation, constantly strive to become stronger”.

After visiting the school history hall, the students visited the geological exhibition room. The teachers introduced the characteristics, forming conditions and industrial uses of each rock in detail. For the questions raised by the students, the teachers always explained to the students with emotion. The students also take this opportunity to solve their own confusion and express their expectations for the major. Prof. Zhao said that the purpose of the course "Introduction to Geological Resources and Geological Engineering" is to let students know the general situation of geological discipline, cultivate students' interest in geological specialty, consolidate their professional knowledge base, so as to avoid the confusion and anxiety when opening professional courses.

After the visit, the students have taken a group photo in front of the University History Hall, to leave a precious memory for today. The students have a deep understanding of the history and culture of our university and geology major discipline overview. As for the smooth development of freshmen's entrance education, our college will take further measures to ensure the smooth and orderly progress of freshmen's entrance education.
